College Lacrosse Opportunities

RECRUITMENT TIPS

To play college lacrosse, focus on academics, develop your skills through practice and camps, and build relationships with coaches. Research college options at various levels (NCAA, NJCAA, NAIA, and club) and create a list of 15-20 schools that are a good fit both athletically and academically.

Develop Your Skillls

  1. Practice regularly: Work on your stick skills and train hard to improve your physical condition.
  2. Attend camps and showcases: These are great opportunities to gain exposure to college coaches and refine your abilities.
  3. Play year-round: Joining a summer travel team or club program can help you play more and improve as an athlete.

Marketing Outreach

  1. Get a highlight film: Have your high school coach help you organize a video to send to coaches, especially if you don't play for a summer club team.
  2. Create a resume: Develop a resume that highlights your athletic achievements and academic strengths.
  3. Contact coaches: Reach out to the coaches at the schools you are interested in. Invite them to watch your games and keep them updated on your progress, including off-season activities.
  4. Visit schools: If possible, visit the campuses to get a feel for the team and school culture.

Research and Apply

  1. Explore all options: Look into the various governing bodies that offer college lacrosse programs, including the NCAA, NJCAA, and NAIA, as well as club programs like the MCLA.
  2. Create a list: Identify a broad list of 15-20 schools that interest you, considering different divisions (D1, D2, D3).
  3. Consider all factors: Think about which schools are a good fit academically, socially, and financially, not just athletically.
  4. Narrow your list: As you get feedback from coaches and re-evaluate your priorities, narrow down your list to a manageable number for applications.
